This pioneering project in Chifeng marks a historic achievement as China’s first electric storage mainline traction locomotive project. It integrates green power directly into the national railway network, setting a precedent for sustainable transportation infrastructure.
The environmental impact is immediate and measurable, with an annual reduction in fuel consumption of 610 tons. This shift from fossil fuels to stored green electricity cuts carbon emissions by 1,900 tons per year.
Economically, the project demonstrates high efficiency, saving about $482 million in energy costs annually. It proves that greening the transportation sector can yield both ecological benefits and significant financial savings.
