Located in the bustling city of Karlstad, Sweden, this state-of-the-art charging station is strategically positioned near two major supermarkets, a furniture store, and a large outdoor parking facility with over 500 parking spaces. These amenities draw a substantial number of local shoppers as well as residents from neighboring Norway, resulting in high traffic volumes throughout the day. The primary objective of the station was to address the growing demand for electric vehicle charging services, offering an efficient and reliable solution to meet the needs of these high-frequency shoppers and commuters. With its impressive infrastructure, the station has become a vital asset in the region’s push towards cleaner, more sustainable transportation.
The charging station is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including two 480 kW power banks and five dispensers, providing a total charging capacity of 960 kW. This powerful setup enables the station to charge multiple electric vehicles simultaneously, accommodating the charging needs of up to 10 vehicles at once. The station is designed to deliver fast charging, significantly reducing wait times for users, which is particularly important in a high-traffic retail area where convenience is key.
Every month, the station charges an average of 1,200 vehicles, delivering a total of 30,000 kWh of electricity. This high utilization underscores the growing adoption of electric vehicles in the region and the station’s pivotal role in meeting the charging needs of both local residents and cross-border shoppers. The dispensers are equipped with 350A high-current output cables, which can be boosted to a maximum of 500A, enabling rapid energy replenishment and ensuring that customers can quickly recharge and continue their activities with minimal disruption. Additionally, the distributed design of the chargers ensures flexible power distribution, allowing the station to adjust charging power according to each vehicle's specific needs. This flexibility improves the overall station efficiency, boosting its utilization by more than 10%.
In terms of economic performance, the charging station has proven to be highly beneficial, not only meeting the immediate charging needs of local users but also laying the foundation for a more stable, reliable charging network across the country.
